Valentina Mazzucato
Valentina
Mazzucato studied Political Science and French literature
at Williams College (U.S.A.). She volunteered as a high school
teacher in Merti, Kenya and then returned to the United
States to obtain an M.Sc. degree in Agricultural Economics
from Michigan State University. She worked at the International
Service for National Agricultural Research (ISNAR) for which
she conducted research in Niger, Mali, Ivory Coast and
Burkina Faso on the effects of national research programs
on the livelihoods of West African farmers. In 2000 she obtained
her Ph.D. degree (cum laude) from Wageningen University
(NL) with a thesis entitled Soil and water conservation
in a changing society: the case of eastern Burkina
Faso co-authored with David Niemeijer. In July 2001
she received a research grant from the Netherlands Foundation
for Scientific Research (NWO) to carry out the Ghana TransNet
research program. She has published various articles in Economic
Geography, Development and Change, People Space and Place,
Migrantenstudies, Afriche e Orienti, Geoderma, Environment
and Oxford Development Studies.
