Sofia Casini

Sofia CasiniSofia Casini is studying International Development at the International School for Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Amsterdam.  In addition to pursuing her academic studies, she volunteers with the Africa department of Mama Cash, a Netherlands' based international funding agency. Her previous work includes community organizing and fundraising activities for New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, a non-profit legal organization working on behalf of low-income, immigrant based communities.  She has also provided extensive volunteer support to community organizations working towards the integration of African immigrants in New York City. In 2004, she conducted fieldwork in Accra, Ghana, for her MA-thesis on Ghanaians who migrated to The Netherlands, and returned to establish businesses in Accra. Her research focuses on the impact of the migration process and the establishment of businesses on the development of Ghanaian migrants and members of their social networks.
